Graphic Design is the technical aspect of art. Within the last 10 years or so it's grown exponentially from its original concept of layout manipulation and typography as computers and technology progress. Today Graphic Designer are expected to do much more like branding, marketing, web design, layout design, print design; basically every kind of design feasible from a computer.
Just because you own an illegal copy of Photoshop does not make you a Graphic Designer.

A Graphic Designer does not equal a Web Designer. BUT since they are closely related its a good idea to learn the rules of web design. Most of my income actually comes from web design. It's an inexpensive way to market an idea for small businesses. Web Designer are expected to know the basic coding practices of HTML, CSS, ASP, PHP, as well as web hosting, script integration, and some Flash.

Web Developers make unique sites for specific needs like MySpace and applications for sites like FaceBook. Many, many, MANY employers often confuse web developers with web designers. Web developers tend to be more program heavy and their salaries are much higher in comparison since there are very few freelance web developers.
