On March 4, 2011 I went to see Marie Digby perform at a small venue at the La Puente Mall in La Puente, California. I’ve followed Marié’s career since she first started on Youtube doing covers of popular pop songs. I remember one time I was at Target and was looking in the CD section and saw her first album selling for $7.99. So I bought it and ever since then it has been in rotation in my cars CD player.

About 2 weeks prior to going to her concert I decided to do an oil painting of her first album. I thought it would be a great challenge and often times all I need to paint is inspiration. I documented the steps I took in painting this piece which can be seen below. When I got to the concert and during her Meet-and-Greet I showed her images from my phone. In one of the pictures you can see her face light up.

The Art of War Guild as Magic cards

In 2010 I created these Magic Cards for the guild members of The Art of War. I was appointed as the Art of War guild webmaster in World of Warcraft. I’ve been doing this since the Burning Crusade expansion. Our initial guild members are actually life-long friends. Some of us even know each other from elementary school. I developed these cards to convince members to stay with us long-term, and so people on our website could have avatars. Most of our members played Magic at one point, some even at a professional level. Card images are in-game screenshots of the character attached with either a fun inside-guild joke of their personality or something they did in-game that’s memorable. I have lately been obsessed with games like Elo and LOL, I love to go on P4R-Gaming and get boosters for my games, there tons of different skins for League of Legends available at proskins.io as well.

Arthas Acrylic Painting

This Arthas acrylic painting was inspired by the cinematic CGI of Arthas: The Lich King, from the World of Warcraft MMO, when he raises Sindragosa from her frozen tomb.

I began painting in a much larger scale than I’m used to. When I finished painting I was happy with the finished product, but I am no where near my ideal perfection. Based on the subject, I feel I could have made a much bigger impact painting this in oils instead of acrylics. This took approximately 25 hours and multiple sessions spread out between 6 weeks. Most of that time was because I didn’t know what direction to take it at first.

For every great hero, there’s a great villain. Arthas burned the city of Stratholme and killed innocent people to prevent the plague from spreading. Later took his seat on the Frozen Throne as the new Lich King to control the undead. Villains are often misunderstood and although many of his actions can be deemed dishonorable, you can’t fault him for doing what he believed to be right.

Baton Rouge Flowers Acrylic Painting

In Baton Rouge Flowers, I tried to go outside my normal painting style. I also tried to go outside my typical palette. There’s actually 2 extra layers of paint because I was just not happy with the 1st and 2nd versions of this particular painting, so I just painted over the parts I felt were too weak or confusing.

If there’s any advice I could give to novice painters, it’s this; Keep painting until you are happy with the final look. You can always erase, add-on, paint over, or hide any perceived imperfections.

Any guy can buy any girl flowers, and that’s generally what passes for romanticism these days. From my life experiences, I’ve realized that every girl has a favorite, specific flower that makes them smile just a little bit more. She was not your typical girl. She hated receiving flowers because they were too expensive for their lifespan and they eventually died. She’d rather use the “wasted” money on something else. Regardless of her stand on the subject I managed to find one that she liked, and I was planning to surprise her. The problem was that this particular flower was not in season at the time. I had visited every florist within a 20 mile radius and the best I could do was a special rush order, which cost a bit more and was not guaranteed to arrive on time. So I took the chance…

I wholeheartedly believe she loved them and that moment will forever be etched in my memory. I know all flowers die eventually. So I took it one step further and immortalized those flowers into a painting. Before you is the finished product.

Phoenix Logo for Power Sports

The Phoenix Logo was a sub brand of the Power Sports company. I used a sans-serif and italicized font that would be readable from far away distances. This was going to be put on mopeds and scooters. The X in the logo was colored in red to represent a phoenix. It was also extended to represent the idea of a fast bird. I worked on a handful of branding projects with this company, but this was the only one that I had solely worked on that I feel comfortable enough to claim credit in creating. The company has since discontinued this particular brand.

Metallic Emblem for Power Sports

This Power Sports metallic emblem was an alternative logo design used on the scooter models itself. It was rendered to have a 3D effect like other car company logos. This logo was used for a long period of time. The initial design was based off of a police shield emblem to portray a sense of safety. It’s also simple enough that its vector can easily translate to other forms. After a few years in circulation, they decided to use my other logo instead. In things considered, the other logo was better for the overall look of their company.

Power Sports Logo

Power sports logo has gone through many changes as the company grew. The company specialized in branding affordable scooters and other recreational vehicles in the U.S. In any event this was my logo creation and it was used mostly for their e-commerce and document branding. The logo had so be simple enough that it could be eventually transferred over as a metal emblem often found as branding for vehicles. Ultimately, it was used as their main logo and can still be seen on their site today. Eventually in a few years it was also used as their vehicle emblem

American Aircraft Interiors Logo

The American Aircraft Interiors logo (logo-002) was created in 2005 for an aircraft upholstery company. The company is located in the Temecula/Murrieta area at the French Valley Airport. It has been in business for more than 20 years. I’ve known the owner personally since 2004 and we’ve done many great things together. The company needed an update on their logo for future expansion. They also wanted to give the feel of prestige and luxury as their old logo was clip art from the 90s. Since then it has since been an important part in branding increasing profits over 150% within 18 months.

 

CONCEPT AND DESIGN

The client wanted the logo to be stylized similarly to the NASA logo. Since the company name is quite long I had to block it into 3 lines so that it could fit in certain design spaces. With “American” in the title, I went with a red, white, and blue theme.

I’ve also handled their website http://www.americanaircraftinteriors.com since 2004.

Blue Canyon Acrylic Painting

In Blue Canyon, I started incorporating the spatula technique in my painting style more then I typically do to get those harder, thicker, and sharper edges around the mountains. I also used a big paintbrush to get the haze feel of the background, sky, and lake. Blue has always been one of my favorite colors and I try to paint things that bring me happiness and a smile to my face. This might be one of the last time I signed my full name before taking up my alter-ego moniker, Tekrebel. It currently hangs at my parent’s house in one of the rooms.
